Foreword

The development of modern India involves coming together of multiple disciplines spreading from sciences to engineering to technologies related to the five elements of nature – earth, fire, wind, water and space. The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India has technical competence in most of these domains within its institutes and extended offices.

The Gulf of Khambhat Development Project, popularly known as the Kalpasar Project, is a special opportunity provided by the Government of Gujarat to the MoES, which requires the integration of the multi-disciplinary studies by a large number of organizations. The preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Kalpasar project required the integration of the technical competences available not only within MoES, but also those available in many other universities and wings of the Government of India and State Government of Gujarat.

We are happy that this DPR of the Kalpasar Project will help build the longest, multi-purpose infrastructure project of the world with numerous benefits to the people of the State of Gujarat, in particular, and of India in general, when completed. We are thankful to the Government of Gujarat for seeking the help on the matter.
